About the Classes
The McMahon Auditorium Authority, in collaboration with the City of Lawton Arts and Humanities Division, is proud to announce the upcoming Carnegie Library Arts Classes starting the third and fourth week of January 2025. This series of art courses will offer the community an exceptional opportunity to learn from renowned local artists such as Kathy Liontas-Warren and Mathew Hughes.
Classes will be held once a week for an hour and a half over a six-week period. Topics include Graphite, Watercolor, Charcoal, and other specialized art techniques. While most courses are geared toward adults and high school students, middle-school students may also be considered for select classes.
Enrollment opens Friday, November 15, and will close the day before the first day of class in January. Space is limited to 12 students per course, so early registration is encouraged. The fee for each six-week course is $50.00, and participants are welcome to enroll in multiple courses. All courses are designed for skill building and will start with introductory-level material to ensure accessibility for all skill levels.

For paid courses, children must be middle school age or older, and a parent or guardian must sign a waiver. Depending on the child’s age, the parent/guardian may need to remain with the student during the class. Before enrollment is confirmed for middle-school-aged students, the parent/guardian and student must schedule an interview with the Arts and Humanities Administrator, Jason Poudrier, before January 3rd. To schedule an interview, email arts@lawtonok.gov or call 580-581-3470.
For free, one-day public workshops, pre-registration is highly encouraged, and they are open to all ages. However, parents/guardians must stay and supervise their children during the workshop. If a child causes disruptions, the parent and child will be asked to leave to maintain a productive environment for others. Please note that these workshops are designed for all ages and are not specifically tailored to engage young children. Consider your child’s maturity and interest level before attending.
In the future, we plan to offer free and paid art workshops specifically for young children. In the meantime, here are other local opportunities:
Lawton Fort Sill Arts Council offers art workshops for children nearly every month. Visit their Facebook page or call (580) 585-7073.
Lawton Public Schools Summer Arts Institute offers arts programs during the summer. Learn more at lawtonartsforall.org or call 580-248-5384.

However, non-expendable supplies, such as easels, will remain in the classroom and cannot be taken home.
If additional supplies are needed beyond the provided materials, students will be responsible for purchasing them.
For photography workshops, students must bring their own cameras or mobile devices, as cameras or other electronic equipment will not be provided.
