Lawton Community Theatre: Benefit Concert

Lawton Community Theatre recently made adjustments to the theater’s 2023-2024 season due to catastrophic storm damage of The John Denney Playhouse. The damage also prompted the relocation of the theater’s office and staff.

“When the theater was damaged this summer, one of the most highly impacted areas was the box office and the managing director’s office,” said LCT Managing Director Chance Harmon. “The ceiling above the offices was saturated and water was leaking from the light fixtures. Our computers were fried and a majority of our office items were soaked and ruined.”

The main office for LCT and its staff, Harmon and Associate Artistic Director Susie Williams, will now be housed at Cameron University’s Music Building, located on the northeast side of campus. This location will remain the main office for LCT until further notice.

“We couldn’t be more thankful for President John McArthur, Dr. Kirsten Underwood and the university as a whole for taking us in,” Harmon said. “We felt so lost and displaced after the theater was damaged. We were working from home and meeting at local coffee shops to move the theater forward despite not having a habitable central location. Everyone at Cameron University has been exceptionally kind during this transition and has made us feel cared for and stable. Again, our hearts are eternally grateful for this outpouring of grace, not just for our staff but LCT.”

Due to the location change of the main office, LCT staff will be planning pop-up ticket booths for ticket sales throughout the 2023-2024 season. LCT staff will set up at Viridian Coffee on 2nd Street in downtown Lawton from 3-5 p.m. August 31, September 1, 14 and 15. Other pop-up ticket booths will be planned throughout the season and will be posted to the Lawton Community Theatre Facebook page.

“We know not having all of our business, activities and performances at The John Denney Playhouse will be difficult for our longtime patrons,” Harmon said. “We’ve been in the same location for decades, so this will be a big change, but we hope to make this an easy transition for our supporters and hopefully reach new audience members, especially with these pop up shops.”

Office hours will continue from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday-Friday. Calls to the theater can still be made to 580-355-1600 and emails may be directed to boxoffice@lctok.com.
