Black History Month - Proclamation Signing Ceremony

oin us for the annual Black History Month kick-off ceremony on Thursday, February 1, 2024, at 5:30 p.m. at the McMahon Memorial Auditorium! This event is free and open to the public, so come celebrate with us!

This year, the City of Lawton is proud to host under the theme 'African Americans in the Arts.' Mayor Stan Booker will sign the official proclamation, declaring February 2024 as Black History Month, alongside representatives from Lawton Public Schools, Cameron University, Fort Sill, the Lawton/Fort-Sill Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance, National Pan-Hellenic Council of Lawton/Fort Sill, and the Lawton/Fort Sill Branch NAACP.

The event will feature a guest speaker and a musical performance by the Bethlehem Baptist Church Choir. You can also stick around for the Black History Month Art Show opening ceremony featuring local and Southwest Oklahoma artists!
